KAZUMASA MIZOKAMI
Giovanni Bonelli Gallery
Duomo 1, Pietrasanta Italy
Galleria Giovanni Bonelli is pleased to present the first solo exhibition of the Japanese artist Kazumasa Mizokami.
A feeling of joyful happiness welcomes the visitor to the exhibition who finds himself immersed in a myriad of small colored elements, all rigorously in painted terracotta, like in an enchanted garden.
One wall is dedicated to twelve small sculptures representing the months of the year. Each one is a refined tile from which different types of flowers or geometrizing shapes emerge, colored according to a sensitivity that does not refer to the specific month – for example February 20th is an explosion of yellow on a blue background – but emerges directly from the imagination of the artist.
His unmistakable faith in the possibility of a simplified representation of Beauty, without making it trivial or stylized, leads him to create ever new compositions that are based on the observation of nature – recurring are the stylizations of flowers. Some of the subjects explicitly refer to a philosophical vision of the relationship between man and the world, as in the “Uomoblu” where a stylized figure of a man in blue terracotta relates to a candid sphere. In others works feelings find expression as in Fire in the Heart.
The installation of the works, conceived and curated by the artist, creates a clear division between warm and cold colors thus evoking the natural alternation of day and night.
Through the works of Kazumasa we are transported into a dimension of peace and harmony where life is celebrated by the multitude of shapes and colors thanks to a rigorous and meticulous workmanship of the terracotta, allowing us to temporarily distance ourselves from the frenzy of our time.
